How to turn a Basket into Art

Well, we are just about out of juice on the kitchen, so we are mixing it up a little this week with the latest work on our Guest Room: DIY Wall Art. My original design board (seen below) had hints of coral and brown to blend with the already Sea Salt Blue of the walls and white bedding, until... 

I stumbled upon these amazing Tahari baskets! I was instantly inspired to use them as wall art.

Here's HOW I made easy Basket Wall Art!
1) In order to hang them properly, I used kraft (is this spelled with a c or a k?! I'll never know!) paper to trace the outline of each basket.
2) I put my pencil through the center whole to mark the center of the tracing circle.
3) Cut out each tracing. 

4) Then using painter's tape I was able to adjust them on the wall until I found the perfect spot of each one. (some trial and error happened first!)

This also made it easy to hang each basket. 

5) Using tack nail, hammer the nail in at the spot previously marked (center of the circle) with the pencil. Leave the nail sticking out about a half of an inch. 

6) Tear off the craft paper from around the nail. 

7) Place basket on the nail by pushing the center of the basket on top of the nail. Then hammer the nail further into the wall to secure the basket fully.

Moving Our Master Bedroom

We have lived in our home by the creek for a total of  175 days. In that time we have completed a lot of small [but necessary] tasks like dismantling the loft and making a window screen; as well as the ONE BIG task of renovating our entire kitchen. To say the least, a LOT has changed. One thing I have come to find is that our house is always in flux. Moving furniture from one room to the next, thinking of new ideas and ways to improve our space, and learning how we use each room has this place constantly changing to meet our needs. The Master Bedroom has fluctuated the most of all the rooms in the house. 

We first settled on the front bedroom, which originally was a peachy color. 

We thought we would reside in the peachy bedroom and expand into this green room to make a en-suite bathroom. Upon further evaluation, this idea was not practical.

Then, on move in day (more on that here) we decided to make this room our office. 

We continued to expand on the "office" idea for this room for awhile...

Until we painted the room off the kitchen....

Without the purple paint, this room became MUCH more appealing. 

This satisfied us for a mere 30 days before we were on the move again...this time, to our final location!

 And here we have landed, in the potential bathroom, turned office, turned bedroom. Ironically, this is the ONLY room we have not painted or done any type of updating. BUT, it is the coziest room in the house. It has a gorgeous view of the creek and two beautiful windows with lots of natural light. Because it is in the far corner of the house, it provides quiet and privacy too! We have loved being tucked away in our "new" master suite.

 

I am MOST excited about the blank slate to decorate in this room. We are in the midst of choosing a wall color and fabrics. When we were residing in the room off the kitchen, I created this mood board which is still in the running for our design scheme.  The jury is still out on what the final look will be, but we are excited to reveal it to y'all when we decide!

Mood Board: Favorite Fabrics

This weekend I spent some time creating bedroom mood boards for some of my favorite fabrics: 

Shumacher Chaing Mai, Robert Allen Greystone Ikat, and Duralee's Navy Ikat. I just love the bright colors in the the Chaing Mai print. And the navy ikat is just gorgeous...hard to do navy without being nautical, but this print does it! And just to throw under fun fabric into the mix, I chose another one of my favorite IKATs by Robert Allen.

Mood Board: Master Bedroom

While we finish up the kitchen, ideas are brewing for our master bedroom. We love the idea simple elegance by using only two subtle colors in varying textures and shades. We already have bedding from Restoration Hardware (seen here in ivory) that we LOVE! and my parents gave us a custom upholstered headboard like the one featured on the board for our wedding gift (as if the wedding wasn't enough!). So we want to use those as our base. A pretty neutral pallet! If you remember, we have dark wood dressers in the room as well.

This is my first go at a mood board. In addition to the pieces below I would like to find a pair of art prints  (or make them!) for over the dresser. I also have a few accessories picked out! (here, here, & here)
