Brookside Master Bedroom Plans

Now that we have doors to our Master Bedroom, it is a little bit easier to envision the space. We have already purchased the upholstered bed and the bedside tables. We have also painted the walls Sherwin Williams Anonymous. I am still debating on the color, but for now we are sticking with it. Here is a look at the other "base layers" (and sources) I have picked for our room:

1// Upholstered Bed. We were so excited to have a big master bedroom that we splurged on this gorgeous bed from Mitchell Gold Bob Williams right when we moved into our new home. We love having a king size bed and it makes for a great focal point in our large space.

2// Moroccan Souk Rug. This rug is ultra plush and will be great to put my feet on first thing in the morning. I have wanted this rug for like ever and now have the perfect spot for it. I also really like the geometric pattern and ethnic feel the rug gives the room. There are lots of places to buy souk rugs, but we are digging this one.

3// Semi Flush Fixtures. Our current lighting situation is an interesting one. Currently, there  are 4 sconces and 2 ceiling fans. The ceiling fans have no lighting so we are left with dim sconce light and the light from our current bedside table lamps (which I might add we are down to one table lamp after a certain kitty knocked one over). All that to say, our lighting situation is looking dim (hah!). We are currently on the hunt for fixtures similar to the ones shown. We need three light fixtures in a slightly larger size to provide adequate overhead lighting.

4//Ikea Trysil 3-Drawer Dressers. We stumbled on these during our last trip to IKEA. We really liked this option (and this one), but the price point was really eating into our budget. We decided to go for the low cost option (the look for less if you will). We like the metal legs, the clean lines, and the wood finish. We also found this Trysil Ikea Hack that we thought was a super creative way to add some brass to the look.

5// Fiddle Leaf Fig. The perfect way to add modern greenery to a room. I am still debating on buying a real or faux plant. My track record for keeping indoor plants alive is not so hot. Have any of you bought a fiddle leaf fig? What was the upkeep like? Easy to maintain? 

More to come as we pick out bedding, chairs, upholstery, pillows and lamps to complete the look of the master. What type of bedding and decor would you choose to go with this current look?

Organizing Gift Wrap in a Small Closet

When a good friend of mine asked me to organize her closet for all of her Freedom's Promise gear, I was so excited. Freedom's Promise is a terrific organization that seeks to prevent human trafficking. I first traveled with Freedom's Healing (a subset of Freedom's Promise) in July 2011 for a medical mission trip to the country of Cambodia. Since then, I have remained connected with the organization and was delighted to use my organizational skills to help the cause.

And here are the boxes of files, office supplies, etc that need to be organized...

There are actually two identical closets in this bedroom which currently house personal items and soon, Freedom's Promise items. We really couldn't just organize the newly designated Freedom's Promise closet, without also organizing the other closet with the displaced personal items.

After assessing the items in both closets and discussing what my friend wanted from each closet, I came up with a plan for each closet. In the Freedom's Promise closet, we really needed shelving for storage of office supplies, files, folders, and bulk office supply items.

PERSONAL CLOSET: BEFORE

The personal closet is also within the guest room, and needs hanging space for guests to use when visiting. It is also a storage spot for extra gifts and gift wrapping supplies, as well as a pack-n-play and small highchair. The plan is to use the vertical space as well as the flat surfaces within the closet to maximize functionality. By using the door for gift wrap organization, similar to this idea, we will free up valuable hanging space. I decided to use large canvas bins for the closet shelves to house sheets and other items guests may need during there stay. For the gifts, I chose decorative baskets that sit on the floor of the closet and are easily accessible. The remaining items tuck nicely in the corner of the closet, out of site but not out of reach.

Up first, enacting my plan to solve the Gift Wrap Dilemma in the Personal Closet.

Renovation Plans for the Kitchen

We have known since day one that the kitchen would need total renovation, so in the midst of our other endeavors we have been cooking up some pretty awesome plans for the kitchen overhaul. 

If you remember, this is what our kitchen looks like now.

But we have since made some big plans for the space and are looking forward to its new look! +Lowe's Home Improvement has been SO HELPFUL in getting our plans together. I brought the measurements and my ideas to Melissa, an awesome kitchen designer, and we have been on a roll with the planning ever since.  

A few things we absolutely wanted: Solid Wood Cabinetry, Granite Counters, New Appliances, Traditional style, and a more open concept. Here is the NEW and IMPROVED layout for our space.

Notice the pantry on the far left - so excited to have this space!

The cabinets to the right and left of the window have glass doors to make the area feel more open.

We chose White Shaker-style cabinets made by Shenandoah Cabinetry. They are solid wood and gorgeous like these! The other part is choosing granite, sink, faucet, flooring, cabinet hardware, and a mobile kitchen island! More on those selections later. 

So its official,  the plans are submitted and are cabinets are in the process of being made just for us!
