How to Organize Gift Wrap

If you missed the planning post, here is a quick overview of what is to be done with the two closets in this space: one that will soon be designated a personal closet for gift wrap storage and another is our Closet for a Cause for all of the Freedom's Promise files and office supplies. Today we are going to focus on solving the Gift Wrap Storage Dilemma.

The planning phase of the organizing process is a crucial step in organizing. During the planning phase I listen to your needs, identify the purpose of the space and give guidance on organizing products that may be helpful in organizing yours space (think bins, boxes, etc). Here is the list of supplies to solve our gift wrap dilemma:

1. Gift Wrap Door Organizer
2. Large Basket(s) for extra Gifts
3. Large Baskets for Bulk Storage in Personal Closet

Step three in the Organizing Process: SORTING
This is often the most difficult part of organizing. I gently guide my clients in making thoughtful objective decisions about there things. For this particular project, we divided the items found in the closets into 6 different piles among the two closets.

● SHRED: papers that need to be shredded (generally only those with personal info)
● GIVE/DONATE: items that you no longer need but are nice enough for others to use (this
includes not only items for Goodwill but also items for grown children, relatives, etc)
● FILE: papers that need to be filed
● KEEP: items that belong in other rooms of your home (for example, the holiday items that are going in the other closet)
● KEEP: items that need to be organized in the closets - further divide into what needs to go into the "personal" closet and what goes into the "freedom's promise" closet
● TRASH (use a trash bag or LARGE trash can!)

Now that the sorting is complete, it is time for me to determine a place for each item, and organize it in a way that is both functional and pleasing to the eye.

Have lots of rolls of wrapping paper? This organization system is great for that too. The shelving can be altered to fit the height of up to 8 rolls of wrapping paper. If you have a gift wrap dilemma (or any other organizing crisis for that matter), I would love to help you solve it!

Gallery Wall Inspiration

One of my mid-week must-haves revealed one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE Gallery walls.
I dream of having a gallery wall as gorgeous as this one in our home one day.

As I begin to build on my ideas for the den (more on that here), I am thinking this wall looks pretty perfect for a gallery wall inspiration...

I have already started "collecting" (and by collecting I mean storing links to these amazing images so I can one day buy them!) art for my gallery wall. It is a little intimidating to think about filling an entire wall with art, much less purchasing all of it and hoping it all works together. Here are some of the things I have found thus far...

Moon And Back From Target.com

Blue Floral Card by Rifle Paper Co

Coffee Print on Etsy

...and last but not least the artichoke prints I found on the cheap at Home Goods!
As your saw here, similar ones are available at West Elm.

Overall I think this is a pretty good start for my gallery wall inspiration!
Have you guys found any great prints or places you just LOVE to buy art from?

Decorating Our Guest Room on A Budget

We are enjoying our guest room these days... maybe even a tad envious when we glimpse the guest room and then walk into our unfinished master bedroom... but we are so thankful it is ready to host guests at a moments notice. Here is our Budget Breakdown for the guest room and HOW we got that look!

  • Pallet Headboard: FREE! This was the first project Ty and I did together. Who knew it was foreshadowing many DIY projects to come!
  • Bedding: The White Duvet with the Green trim I bought in college. It can still be found here. The quilt was a steal at TJ Maxx/Home Goods for only $49. It is made my Cynthia Rowley.
  • Pillows: The Euro Shams are from PB's Palampore Bedding Collection. These cost a pretty penny at $49 each, but when debating over making my own shams out of my FIRST CHOICE of fabric... Schumacher's Chaing Mai in Aquamarine at $100plus/yard...these were definitely the cheaper of the two options; Yellow Pillows: Homemade from our previous guest room in the Sloan Road HouseCoral Damask Pillow: This was a GREAT Etsy find. Only $14 on clearance.
  • Matching Glass Lamps: Also on CLEARANCE for $29 each at TJ/HG
Schumacher's Chaing Mai Fabric in Aquamarine
Reading Nook:

  • Yellow Chair: From my childhood, FREE (thanks Ma!)
  • Tahari Yellow Baskets for Wall Art: $45 from TJ Maxx/Home Goods
  • White Fluffy Pillow: Another TJ Maxx/Home Goods find for $45
  • Curtains: White Ritva Curtains from Ikea (4); two pair for $24.99 each
  • Night stands and side table: all previously owned $0

and last but not least...
Crystal Knobs to update existing side table: $7

Grand TOTAL: $400 on the nose
(I included tax to get this pretty number)
We also plan on changing out the light fixture at some point too!

Decorating our Den

Everyone needs a space they can feel tucked away in their own home. A nook, a quiet spot, a chair that is just for them. A place to experience peace, and to step away for a moment. I have had trouble finding my "zen place" in our new home, until I created it during my decorating frenzy on Monday! You may recognize this room from our painting preview. It originally housed our pretty camel-back green sofa from the condo.

This room is beautiful - lots of natural light, huge windows on both side, easy access to the kitchen. My first thought was to turn this area into a more formal sitting room where people could enjoy a cocktail before dinner, or sit and chat it big lush chairs. So I created a space JUST like that...

BUT  here's the thing...Ty and I just aren't this formal. We don't love sitting upright and sipping our tea and cocktails. I want to sit NEXT TO my friends in sweat pants, drinking coffee and watching a movie. So, although this room is beautiful, it just wasn't fitting my needs. I needed a place to feel tucked away. I wanted to create a space that I could have my quiet time, my favorite book, a cup of coffee, and enjoy the company of friends. Nothing formal or fancy, just comfortable, inviting and cozy.
SO with those things in mind - I leave you in suspense until my next post!

Mid-Week Must Haves

It just snowed AGAIN here in Nashville - I spent Monday indoors, and caught the redecorating disease while I was evading the cold and ice. Monday was a good day. I have had "design-block" for about a month now, and all that ended on this icy day. I literally removed every stitch of furniture from our Living Room and the room off the kitchen (the den?), and rearranged it ALL! Since this is our FIRST HOME, I am still learning the purpose and function of each room. 8 months in and I am getting warmer (despite the 20 degree temps!) and closer to defining each room, and making it "home" for us. All that to say, the un-decorating was inspired by a few items ... Here are your FIRST EVER Mid-week Must-Haves!

1. WEST ELM Chunky Bubble Knit Pouf

This comfy square of love is on sale right now too! It is the perfect fireside seat, cushion for your feet, or place to eat.

2. Silver Garden Seat

This baby is the perfect side table for a drink, or spot for your feet. Not only does it serve dual functions, but its also pretty attractive...AND THE DAILY Deal on wayfair.com!

3. Ikea Karlstad Sofa (more on sofa selections to come)
The Karlstad is modern, sleek and white.
Best of all the price is cheap, reviews of the product are great, and the slipcovers are machine washable.

4. West Elm Lily Candle Holders

Although these exact prints will cost you a pretty penny, they are quite the trend right now. I found two artichoke prints at Home Goods that are equally as charming. Don't know where I am going to put them yet, but they were just too cool to pass up!

Has anyone else been inspired by some must-have items this week?

Happy Hump Day!
